Spectacle Prévert au Caveau du Gouverneur à Tavel

25.11.2017   20:00 – 23:00

4th building: the roof is on!

18.11.2015

In our information of 7 October 2015, we announced the start of construction on our 4th school building along with our students’ good progress, their great desire and joyful motivation to continue their studies.

An important step has been made since then, as of 4 November this 4th school building has a roof. The total number of classrooms will be enough to allow for a complete curriculum of higher education, including 4 years of high school.

A Vaudoise class mobilise for the Foundation

12.11.2015

In order to raise funds to buy pencils, pens, paints and paintbrushes to give to the ‘Rainbow Children’, Ms Sophie Muller’s 4th year class from the primary school at Vers-chez-les Blanc (near Lausanne) made savoury pastries (healthy label) which they sold during the break.

Around 200 children, classmates from 4 to 10 years old, contributed to this beautiful display of solidarity by purchasing these pastries on Thursday, 12 November 2015.

They had a feast : ham-cheese cakes with olives, tomato-mozzarella and grapes-cheese kebabs, pizza, cured meat sandwiches, slices of bread with cheese, ham-cheese whirls, pumpkin soup and banana milk shake.

Well done for this effort crowned with success.

Per Hominis concert in Divonne

07.11.2015   20:30 – 23:30

We are happy to announce that a concert « Rock Variations – from the Beatles … to Mozart » has been organised for the benefit of The Rainbow Children Association, on Saturday, 7 November 2015 at 8.30pm in the beautiful concert hall on the promenade of the lake in Divonne-les-Bains. All profits from the concert will be paid to the Association.

Johanna, an opera singer at the opera of Geneva (le Grand Théâtre de Genève) and her rock group, Per Hominis, agreed spontaneously to offer this musical evening with a revival of great rock hits as well as classical works performed in rock style. This concert will please young and old, fans of rock as much as lovers of classical music.

The children’s choir from the Versonnex School of Music and Dance, conducted by Eric Digaud, will open the concert with a selection from their original opera « Daddy why did you leave me! ».

The Dominican Republic will also be represented at the concert hall by a small catering service offering Dominican specialities before the concert and during the interval, as well as a stand of Dominican crafts and an exhibition of Dominican paintings ; all with Merengue and Bachata music playing in the background.

We hope many of you will come along to share this great musical event as a sign of generosity and solidarity.

You can already buy your tickets on line or at the Divonne-les-Bains tourist offices.

Information and reservations

New electrical system at the scholastic center

19.10.2015

We are delighted to inform you that the new system needed to increase the electrical capacity is now installed and working.

It is made up of the following elements:

  • 10 solar panels
  • 24 batteries
  • 2 inverters
  • 1 power converter
  • 1 battery cooler, necessary in the Dominican Republic because of the climate.

These new installations have become integrated into the existing 8 solar panels.

The electrical capacity was calculated according to the requirements of the 4th and final school building, which comprises 6 classrooms, presently being built. This construction was made possible thanks to the support of the Banque Cantonale Vaudoise who granted the Foundation the prize "BCV Solidarité 2015" last June.

We now have sufficient electricity for the whole scholastic center and can give computer courses which were impossible before.

Construction of the 4th school building leaps forward!

07.10.2015

Construction of the 4th school building started on 23 July 2015 thanks to the support of the Banque Cantonal Vaudoise and the ‘BCV Solidarité’ prize they awarded us in June of this year.

Work has been able to advance more quickly than initially planned. The very dry weather over the last few months has allowed work to continue without interruption. In fact, work has to stop if there is bad weather or very heavy rain. This dry period has allowed significant savings. Interruptions when building always incur additional costs.

In addition, our works manager was able to negotiate very interesting prices, particularly for iron and cement, due to the large quantities of material ordered. The suppliers of building materials, aware of our project, also offered us additional reductions.

For these reasons, it was possible to advance rapidly and go further than forecast in the building schedule. The first 2 stages are now finished and the 3rd stage is in progress. As regards the shell, only the roof remains to be done. Once this is finished, all the interior and exterior work plus the finishing touches can be carried out. This step of the construction will be more meticulous.

The Foundation receive a donation from the staff at the BCV towards the construction of the 4th and final building at the scholastic center

17.07.2015

In June of this year, as part of ‘operation BCV Solidarité’, the staff at the BCV chose to support the construction of a 4th building at the Rainbow Children International Foundation’s scholastic center.

Thanks to this support, the construction of the building is assured and will allow us to complete all the pre-university study levels.

This new structure is essential for our scholastic center which now welcomes 225 students divided into 10 classes, and this number will increase to more than 260 in 12 classes at the start of the 2017 academic year.

On behalf of all the children taught in our center, we warmly thank the BCV and its staff for their invaluable support for our project.

This is a huge public success that makes us known and recognised outside of Cabrera, as far as Nagua the capital of the province. This is thanks to all the members of the Foundation who work tirelessly to bring a little more justice and joy into today’s world.

A well deserved distinction based even more on the activity, the acknowledgement of the quality of work supplied and the teaching given at the Scholastic Center.

« 5 francs for a bus » – We have bought the second bus

06.10.2013

The first of June 2012, International Children's day, Ms. Danuta Sokolska, President of the International Foundation « The Rainbow Children, offered the first donation and found 20 donors in Switzerland and in France to initiate this big solidarity movment. Each of them has purchased books of 10 tickets and has accepted to find other donors in order to repeat the process.

Le nouveau bus suivi du premier

Thanks to your help, your support and your generosity, we were able to acquire a second 25 seat schoolbus, that allows us to transport, starting the 1st of September 2013, our 210 students.

More good news is that we were able to purchase the new bus without paying any import tax, as the International Foundation « Rainbow Children » is recognised as an organization of public interest in The Dominican Republic too. Instead of the 70'000 USD previously forecasted, we were able to purchase it for 55'500 USD.

But the action carries on, because, in order to purchase the new bus at the end of August, we had to borrow 12'500 USD, that we now have to reimburse!

With 2'500 USD collected in September 2013, we are still missing 10'000 USD by the end of September!

Hurricane Isaac touches the north coast of the Dominican Republic

25.08.2012

Hurricane Isaac hit the north coast of the Dominican Republic. The wind gusts reached more than 85 km/h, placing the North Coast on tropical storm alert. Note, certain tropical storms can turn out to be as violent as hurricanes.

Strong winds and heavy rain swept the country. In certains regions telecommunications were interrupted.

To protect the population, police and firemen drove up and down the areas most exposed to danger and, if necessary, evacuated the people. Sometimes force had to be used to evacuate those people who refused to leave their homes, their one and only possession.

Only once the winds had decreased and the rain stopped was the alert cancelled and the extent of the damage ascertained.

In the Samana region and generally throughout the country several bridges were destroyed and washed away. Fortunately, the scholastic center suffered no damage. All necessary precautions had been taken when the alert was given as is always the case.

Let's find some sponsors

15.03.2006

Of course a charitable organization can only help these children thanks to the generosity of others.

What does it mean to be a sponsor?

With a donation of 100 Swiss francs a month, you can offer a child, for one month, the possibility to eat sufficiently every day, to study, and to be clothed. But above all, you allow the child to really live life, and not just survive.

Of course, each contribution is precious, regardless of the amount, and you can rest assured that any amount will contribute to the children's happiness.

As a sponsor, you will receive annual information on the progress of the school or of the orphanage, as well as letters or photos of the children at the school.

Sponsor the purchase of land for cattle

01.01.2006

The foundation was looking for a bigger piece of land in order to increase the number of cows.

The foundation cows are very happy on a pasture rented by the month, but they would like to have more company.

For this purpose, the foundation has found and bought a piece of land that can accommodate about 60 cows. This land was partially purchased thanks to the generous contributions we have received, but there are still a few square meters missing.

You can sponsor the purchase of land for the cows by the square meter, for example, 1 m2, 8 m2, 50 m2, 100 m2, or more.

For more information on this, please write to info@childrenworld.ch.

2005

Cows for children

15.12.2005

In order to create financial autonomy for the foundation, the "Cows for children" project was born.

The concept is the following. A person buys a Dominican milk cow, through a financial loan. All the fruit of the cow (calf or milk) becomes the property of the foundation. The milk is sold in liters or made into cheese. The money earned by these sales goes directly to the children.

As of today, thanks to some generous lenders, the foundation has a herd of 8 cows. These cows are currently on a piece of land rented monthly that can accommodate about 15 animals.

07.08.2004

The official opening of the construction site took place on 07.08.2004. The local and national authorities were present as well as our Swiss friends who support the Foundation (and whom we thank from the bottom of our hearts for being present that day).

Work was expected to begin on Monday 9.08.2004… The new president took office on 16.08 and everything was put on hold. This allowed me to note how the value of the pesos could change. We estimate today that the cost of construction under the new government could be the same as originally expected.
